Feb. 18 at F&G Headquarters

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will hold a public hearing on proposed rule changes to: establish a special deer permit for Governor's Island (Gilford); make some changes to the Long Island (Moultonborough) deer permit; and amend procedures for "sealing" harvested bears. The hearing will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H.

Fish and Game proposes to:

* Readopt with amendment the special deer permit rule establishing a special deer permit for taking deer on Governor's Island, Town of Gilford. The proposed rule specifies the process and requirements for obtaining a permit, the manner and methods for taking deer, landowner permission, and tagging and registration of deer; and establishes a fee of $10 for the permit. The rule is also being amended to add a reference to the special deer permit for Governor's Island as an exception to the provision prohibiting hunting deer on islands.

* Readopt with amendment the rule relative to the Long Island deer permit to eliminate the requirement of permittees having to report hunting activities.

* Amend procedures for "sealing" harvested bears; seals made from lead are no longer used for sealing bear, however, a numbered seal is still required.

The complete rulemaking notice forms, with original and proposed rule language, may be found at www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Legislative/Notices_summary.htm.

Written comments on the proposed changes may be submitted by March 2, 2009. E-mail to comments@wildlife.nh.gov (reference "Comment on Wildlife Rules" in subject line); fax to (603) 271-1438; or mail to Executive Director, N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03301.
