NH Student is a recipient

Twenty-five students from 15 states have been awarded $1,000 scholarships through the Hunting & Shooting Sports Heritage Fund.

For the scholarship, applicants were asked to write a 350-word essay. Entries were judged on how well they reflected the importance and tradition of hunting and the shooting sports.

"It is a wonderful thing to be able to assist the young men and women who are the future of the shooting sports," said Bettyjane Swann, scholarship program director for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). "The scholarship program is a great opportunity to show appreciation to the companies and their employees who are directly contributing to the future of the shooting sports and the industry that supports them."

The Heritage Fund established the scholarship program to assist employees of fund-member companies or family members of those employees. Companies in the shooting sports industry support the Heritage Fund and its efforts to preserve America’s hunting heritage and firearms freedoms.

Scholarships were awarded to students from Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon and South Carolina. Each of the recipients is planning on or is currently attending a higher education institution for the 2006-07 school year.

The 2006 Hunting & Shooting Sports Heritage Fund Scholarship Winner from New Hampshire was Racheal Nadine Dowhan of Lee, N.H. who attends San Diego State.
